What are Electric Mountain Bikes?

Electric Mountain Bikes are full suspension mountain bikes that have the added benefit of amplifying your pedaling power through a battery driven motor. It feels like riding a traditional mountain bike, just a bit easier.

Can someone under 18 ride on the tour and/or rent a bike?

Yes, but the parent or guardian must also participate in the tour or ride with them during the rental period

Do I need to bring an ID for a tour and/or rental?

Yes, you will need to confirm your identity at check-in

What if it is supposed to rain on the day of my tour or rental?

If there is a greater than 50% chance of rain, the tour or rental will be canceled. Malibu Mountain Bikers will do their best to notify you as soon as possible once we determine we will not be conducting tours or renting bikes. You can re-schedule or receive a full refund. What if it is clear, but the trails are muddy?

We will not conduct tours or rent bikes if the trails are muddy. Malibu Mountain Bikers will do their best to notify you as soon as possible once we determine we will not be conducting tours or renting bikes. You can re-schedule or receive a full refund. Do you offer eMountain Bike Skills Classes?

Yes, skills classes can be arranged by emailing craig@malibumtb.com or calling 805.660.2715. If the skills class is for a minor, a parent will also need to participate.

Tour FAQ

What is being provided?

Bike, helmet, gloves, elbow and knee protection

What skill level should I be?

Even though both tours take place on a wide fire road, all participants should be comfortable riding a bike and shifting gears. There are short steep descents with the possibility of loose rock and gravel. These tours are not for someone new to biking.

How strenuous is the tour?

When biking uphill on an electric mountain bike, it will feel like you are walking up a moderate incline. The Malibu tour is a little more strenuous than the Cheeseboro tour due to the amount of climbing.

How long is the tour?

2-2.5 hours from arrival to departure

What is the address?

The Malibu tour starts in the dirt parking lot across from 5555 Busch Drive, Malibu, CA 90265.

The Cheeseboro Canyon tour starts in the upper parking lot (gravel). Address is 5792 Chesebro Road, Agoura Hills, CA 91301.

Will we have time to take pictures?

Yes, the tour guide will stop at several overlooks for pictures of the beautiful scenery.

When should I arrive?

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour to allow time to get you fitted to your bike. Be aware that for the Malibu tour, Zuma beach traffic can cause significant delays, especially during the summer.

What should I wear?

Closed toe shoes such as tennis shoes (no sandals), long loose pants or shorts (padded biking shorts/pants are best), short or long sleeve shirt and lightweight jacket

What should I bring?

Sunscreen, sunglasses, bottled water, lightweight jacket, and closed toe shoes (tennis shoes or equivalent)

Do I need to follow the tour?

Yes, you must participate in the tour and follow the directions of the tour guide. If you are interested in going off on your own, please see the rental section of this website

Are there toilets and water in the park?

The Cheeseboro Canyon tour has portable toilets in the parking lot but does not have fresh water. The Malibu tour does not have toilets or water.

Can I bring my own helmet?

Yes. Helmets will be provided, but you can use your own helmet.

Can I bring my own ebike?

No. The bikes are provided and calibrated to each other to keep the group moving at the same speed.

Can someone under 18 participate in the tour?

Yes, as long as a parent/guardian also participates in the tour

Rental FAQ

When should I arrive?

Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your start time. This will assure time for a Malibu Mountain Bikers’ staff member to review the operation of the bike and to make necessary adjustments

Where are the trailheads located?

Wendy/Potrero Trailhead is in Thousand Oaks. Malibu Mountain Bikers will meet you in the dirt parking lot. Address is 3996 Potrero Road, Thousand Oaks, CA 91361

The Los Robles Trailhead is in Thousand Oaks. Malibu Mountain Bikers will meet you in the dirt parking lot across from 330 Green Moor Place, Thousand Oaks, CA 91361

The Cheeseboro Canyon Trailhead is in Agoura Hills. Malibu Mountain Bikers will meet you in the lower parking lot at 5792 Chesebro Road, Agoura Hills, CA 91301

Can I pick up the bikes myself?

Yes, you can pick-up the bikes (Westlake Village, CA). You will not be charged the $25.00 drop-off fee.

Where do I drop off the bike(s)?

You will meet a staff member from Malibu Mountain Bikers at the same location where the bikes were delivered.

Is there a fee for dropping off the bike(s)?

Yes, there is a $25.00 drop-off fee.

What is being provided?

A 2021 Specialized Turbo Levo eMountain bike; if needed, a helmet, gloves, and elbow/knee protection can be rented through the Malibu Mountain Bikers website

Do I need to wear a helmet?

Yes. If you do not have a helmet, you can rent one on the Malibu Mountain Bikers website.

Can someone under 18 rent a bike?

Yes if a parent/guardian also rides during the rental period

Can we meet at a trailhead that is not on your website?

Malibu Mountain Bikers will make every effort to meet your needs. Please call 805.660.2715 or email craig@malibumtb.com to see if we can accommodate your request

How long will the battery last?

The Specialized eMountain bike will be provided with a fully charged battery. The 700Wh battery will last between 3.5-4.5 hours of continuous riding depending upon the terrain and power level being used.

Is the power cord being provided?

No. The 2021 Specialized Turbo Levo eMountain bikes have a 700Wh battery. This will provide between 3.5-4.5 hours of riding time depending upon the terrain and power level.

Can I rent the bike(s) for multiple days?
